KEY TEXTS: Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.
Luke 10:30-33 NKJV
We don’t know what the Priest and the Levite had in mind, when they chose to ignore this wounded man. Perhaps they didn’t want to get their Holy Hands dirty, or their sacred lives messy. It could be that they were so distracted with their own pious mission, they simply didn’t think to look up to see the man. Or even worse? They believed someone so broken and beaten down was surely not worthy of their precious time and attention.
Jesus gave this parable to conote the fact that the truest demonstration of our faith is how we relate and love others and never the theatricals and religious show offs we exhibit in the church.
The priest had a perfect opportunity to win a new soul to the kingdom of God but lost it because he had no love.
Imagine if the Samaritan was of another religion, certainly he has gained one precious soul through the love he had shown.
How many times have we not lost the opportunity to win a soul to Christ because all we cared about was ourselves and no one else.
We have been taught that the more we keep, the richer we become so every believer today has become selfish.
When a drunk enters a bar without money,by the time he leaves there, a colleague drunk will definitely show him love by buying him a drink.
Today, let a hungry man enter the restaurant of a tongue talking christian and see if he will not thrown out.
Where is the love? Drunks even love themselves more than we do amongst ourselves.
Ruth looked at the love Naomi had shown her and said “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.
Ruth 1:16 NLT
When people feel the deep love we show them, they have no option than to make our God their God.
Beloved, may we shun selfishness and divisiveness and live in love so we can bring down God’s glory in our times.
I love you all and may God bless you.
